Located along the GAP are free and fee based campgrounds. Each provides a combination of necessary (water, fire rings, tables) and comfortable (showers, electric, hammock hooks, etc.) amenities. In 2017 the folks at GAPtrail.org created a comprehensive chart with HYPERLINKS to exact campgrounds and web links to all campground properties.
This chart will help bikepacking beginners and veterans alike, as well as other rail trail travelers plan overnight trips more easily along the 150-mile trail.
*Please keep campsites clean and dispose of trash properly. Practice "Leave no trace" by taking your trash with you until you can discard it accordingly in the next trail town. Thanks for keeping the Great Allegheny Passage a trash free trail.
*There are chemical toilets at the campgrounds, but limited potable water. We recommend that you carry at least a quart of water more than you think you need. Take advantage of the towns along the way for water resupply.
